Trashy Diva Mission
We are a dedicated team of volunteers cleaning up Tucson one bag of trash at a time! We started with “A” Mountain and are now working in various locations. We also have local chapters in the Foothills and Dunbar Spring neighborhoods of Tucson and a chapter in Benton, Tennessee.
About
The Trashy Divas (and dudes) are a group of like minded, action oriented people who care about their surroundings and show respect and care by picking up and collecting garbage and trash in Tucson’s neighborhoods and barrios.
History
The Trashy Diva effort began during the Covid-19 shutdown when Connie Brannock and Amy Weintraub often took early morning bicycle rides up Sentinel Peak, aka “A” Mountain in Tucson. Our intrepid cyclists found all types of litter along the road and throughout the park, detracting from the beauty of the iconic area.
Lessons Learned
While garbage picking may not be the most glamorous activity, picking up trash in one’s beloved neighborhood (Dunbar Springs) or park (Sentinel Peak) can bring joy and satisfaction to participants. The Divas pick up garbage, find an occasional treasure, and overall reduce unsightly trash. Occasionally we met challenges presented by weather and wildlife with grace and aplomb.
Challenges
The Trashy Divas approach all projects with enthusiasm and vigor. Occasionally the fearless Trashy Divas are required to scale back efforts where risks such as unsanitary or dangerous conditions exist, such as river beds and highway shoulders.
